Welcome to assignment #1 for the course SVHI.06.024 Collaborative Learning.

You and your partner were assigned to read a publication that, among other things, compared direct instruction to inquiry instruction. However, each of you read a different publication that presented alternative perspectives on this topic. One publication argued for inquiry instruction while the other publication argued against it.

In this assignment you are to answer questions by considering both perspectives presented in the publications and negotiating a consensus answer to each of the questions.

Below you will find a chat app to communicate with your partner and four questions to answer. When you are finished there is a another section to reflect on your experience.

Rules to follow:

• Communicate with your partner using only the provided chat room app.
• Do not reveal the authors or the name of the publication you read to your partner.
• Do not copy & paste entire sentences or paragraphs from the publication you read while communicating with your partner. Instead, rephrase the main ideas and perspectives in your own words.

Question 4. Design a research study to test whether a direct instruction or inquiry approach is more effective for learning science. Explain in detail the procedures of such a study and what evidence would be collected to determine which approach is more effective.
